According to this article this is the world’s strongest coffee. Called Death Wish coffee it contains more than 200% more caffeine than a normal cup of coffee. How it rates on flavour is unclear but those that have tried it report receiving a intense high followed by a caffeine comedown.

article-2295220-18C0F2A4000005DC-321_306x382New Look have launched a bridal range for those on a budget. The range includes shoes, tiaras and bags and with items starting at £9.99 they won’t break the bank. A pair of satin shoes such as those pictured costs just £29.99. It will be interesting to see how popular the items prove to be.

Ministers are calling for a plastic bag tax to be included in the next Budget. Under the scheme plastic bags would be subject to a 5p charge, It is hoped this would discourage people from using them and encourage a move towards more reusable bag use. A similar idea has already been tried in Wales where it has proven to be quite successful. The question is, would a 5p charge make you think twice about using a plastic carrier bag?

The supermarket chain Morrisons is due to make it’s move into the online market. One of the only large supermarkets without an online delivery service you could argue it has taken them long enough. The chain is the UK’s fourth largest supermarket but the only one of the big four without an online presence. They hope to roll out their online service by the end of the year and have considered a number of options such as a deal with Ocado. With Morrisons reporting a fall in profits and sales over the past 12 months it will be interesting to see how this goes and whether it helps to revive their fortunes.

Some crisp manufacturers will start using real meat in their products as part of an experiment. Walkers will use real chicken in their roast chicken flavour crisps and real bacon in their smoky bacon flavour. The move has apparently upset some vegetarians who are used to eating the products, knowing they do not contain meat. The new flavours should be on sale shortly and is part of a move to reassure customers about the food they are eating.

With the horsemeat scandal being widely publicised it is interesting to see that some butchers and restaurants have been receiving requests for horse. A local (to me) restaurant in Knockholt has recently added a horsemeat burger to its menu and it appears to be going down well with the customers. Other butchers have also started stocking a small amount of horse meat after customers have requested it. Perhaps this will be a new market for the meat. I guess the point is not that everyone is adverse to eating horse, but people do want to know what they are eating.

article-0-148E3980000005DC-621_468x407

We like many other parents own a Bumbo seat so I was interested to see the product is currently at the centre of a safety recall.

There have been two dozen reports of babies fracturing their skulls after using the seat and many other reports of children managing to wriggle out the seat. This has led to Bumbo issuing a safety harness which can be attached to the seat.

As far as I can see most of the reports seem to be from misuse of the product. The seat clearly states that it should not be used on any raised surface and is only suitable for using on the ground. It seems many of the accidents have been caused by doing the opposite of this and using the product on a table or similar, causing the child to be injured when they have wriggled out.

That being said, I won’t be getting a safety harness to use with my seat. I see no need, as I firstly follow the instructions, using the product only the floor and secondly never leave my baby unattended in the seat. I have always considered that a baby could easily wriggle free of the seat but I think when used under supervision it is a useful device. For others that own one I guess the message is, don’t leave your baby unattended when using it.

Shoppers are being warned to check prices when buying duty free as it is often cheaper to buy the same products online. That’s according to this article which says some items such as sunglasses and champagne are priced lower at online stores. Shoppers are being warned against impulse buys and are urged to do their research before purchasing. Research looked at how much it costs to buy a selection of items in a number of airports including Sydney, Heathrow and Dubai and compared the prices to those on the High Street. Items such as Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses worked out £85 cheaper when brought online even taking into the delivery cost. A bottle of Veuve Clicquot yellow label brut also worked out cheaper, costing £23 at House of Fraser, compared to £33.63 at Barcelona or Madrid airport. Whilst some items such as perfume did work out cheaper at the airport, the message is clear, do your research and know your prices before you buy and you could save yourself some money.
